Planning to move outta the basement
This is more a testament to how small this city is because I got wind of it from my co-worker. Our favorite Thai in a basement carry out is making plans to expand to a spot on 9th St. It would be a bigger spot. It wouldn't be anytime soon, possibly not even this calendar year, because as you know, speedy and slap dash are not the Thai Xing way. Slow and tasty, is more like it. Taw did confirm that sometime in the future he would move to a bigger space. He asked me if I still would come to a new location. Admittedly, 9th Street is a bit out of my lazy walk zone. Hopefully, he may have a delivery guy.Labels: business

How exciting--I've heard great things about that place (indeed I have a post written about it in response to the Express article last week!). From what I've heard about Thai X-ing, I'm sure he would do well on the 9th street. There are several old takeout locations, now closed, where he could set up shop. Maybe we could even score him or the building owner a facade improvement grant to provide for a lot nicer digs.
Thanks for the tip!
I eat there all the time and am consistently amazed by how good his food is. It's the best thai food in the city - thanks to Mari for helping bring it to my attention. Love the decor too! So funky and relaxing when you're waiting for your meal

He should be convinced to stay in the area! There are _PLENTY_ of suitable locations in Shaw/LeDroit/Bloomy.
North Cap/West Side
I hope he stays in the area or even moves east...we need him, and Ninth street is already rich with Vegetate and BeBar and Azi's--it's a relative statement, though.
I do love Thai X-ing, and will travel to 9th if I have to.

Please someone tell me where Thai Xing is! I absolutely love Thai, and since I moved to Shaw I figured I wasn't near any Thai restaurants. This sounds wonderful!
Its in the basemenet level of a row house on the north side of florida avenue between fifth and sixth. A bit hard to find but really, really worth it - and there is a sign out front. Best thai food in the city in my opinion.
sorry that was 2nd street
Unrelated to Thai X-ing conversation, but important: Heads up: Over here on Warner Street about 11:30 last night 2 guys -- 1 with a gun -- ran into our neighbor's house when he was home, forced him into the kitchen, ransacked his house for valuables, and ran out a few minutes later. No one was hurt, but everyone's pretty shaken up. According to the detective and reporter who've been here since then, this is the third such "home invasion" in the area in the last few days. Always the same basic pattern: A house with an unlocked front door, a couple of guys with a gun rush in, tear things up looking for valuables to steal, and are out again 5 minutes later. Be safe.

I've seen so many crime reports related to unlocked doors and cars with keys in them. what are people thinking?
